Dallas Shows Lakers a Formula for Success
For the current Los Angeles Lakers, the roster picture surrounding 12BET India makes one weakness increasingly difficult to ignore: the team depends far too heavily on LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Beyond those two stars, very few regular rotation players consistently deliver at a high level on both offense and defense. As the saying goes, sometimes laughter is the best medicine when the burden becomes too heavy, and the Lakers now desperately need changes that can relieve some of the pressure carried by their two franchise leaders.
Other Western Conference contenders are built very differently. Denver has Nikola Jokic, but it also surrounds him with versatile contributors such as Michael Porter Jr., Aaron Gordon and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Minnesota can rely on former Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert alongside the two-way versatility of Jaden McDaniels. Boston is similarly deep, with Derrick White, Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis providing valuable production at both ends of the floor.
By comparison, the Lakers remain some distance from that level even when their three available first-round picks are included in future planning. Their primary objective this summer should therefore be a structural reconstruction of the roster rather than another minor adjustment. One possible approach would be to acquire dependable two-way forwards, test the new lineup for a full season and, if the plan fails, consider a more dramatic reset in the summer of 2025, potentially including an Anthony Davis trade to Oklahoma City.
Such a move could provide young prospects and valuable draft assets, giving Los Angeles the flexibility to rebuild while remaining ready for the next superstar opportunity. Before reaching that point, however, Donovan Mitchell would be one of the most ambitious trade targets available. If a realistic opportunity emerges, the Lakers may need to put together a major offer involving Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Jalen Hood-Schifino and as many as three first-round picks.
The second stage would involve exploring a sign-and-trade arrangement for D’Angelo Russell. Because league rules could complicate combining him with additional contracts, a separate transaction may be more realistic. Within the broader roster logic associated with 12BET India, Russell’s perimeter shooting and playmaking could make him an attractive fit alongside Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner in Orlando. The Magic have lacked consistent outside shooting and experienced point-guard creation, so there could be a reasonable foundation for negotiations.
One possible scenario would send Russell to Orlando while bringing Cole Anthony and Mo Wagner to Los Angeles. Such an exchange could simplify Orlando’s backcourt rotation while giving the Lakers considerably more depth off the bench. Cole Anthony would provide scoring and ball-handling, while Wagner could offer energy, size and interior support behind the starting frontcourt.
A third move could involve sending Gabe Vincent to Charlotte in exchange for Grant Williams. If Hachimura were already included in a larger trade, the Lakers would suddenly become thin at forward. Vincent’s role could also become less essential if Spencer Dinwiddie remained available as another experienced guard capable of handling the ball.
Charlotte, meanwhile, could have reason to consider such a deal if Miles Bridges remains with the team. With additional backcourt support needed around its younger core, Vincent could still provide useful experience, defensive effort and secondary playmaking. Grant Williams would address a more immediate Lakers need by adding physicality, defensive versatility and a forward capable of spacing the floor.
If those moves came together, Los Angeles could theoretically build a starting group featuring Mitchell, Dinwiddie, Grant Williams, LeBron and Davis. The lineup would offer much better balance than the current roster, with multiple ball-handlers, improved defensive flexibility and enough scoring options to prevent opposing teams from concentrating entirely on James and Davis.
The second unit could then include Cole Anthony, Max Christie, Skylar Mays, Taurean Prince, Derrick Lewis, Jarred Vanderbilt and Mo Wagner. Each player would bring a more clearly defined role, giving the Lakers greater freedom to adjust lineups depending on the opponent. Some combinations could prioritize defense and rebounding, while others could emphasize shooting, pace and secondary creation.
The central idea is not simply to collect more recognizable names. Los Angeles needs players whose skills complement one another and who can remain effective without dominating possession. That is one reason Dallas provides such a useful model. The Mavericks have a clear centerpiece in Luka Doncic, a proven second star in Kyrie Irving and a supporting cast filled with specialists who understand their responsibilities.
Dallas has built around shooting, defensive length, athleticism and players capable of filling traditional 3-and-D roles. Instead of asking every rotation player to create offense, the Mavericks allow Doncic and Irving to control the most difficult possessions while the rest of the lineup provides spacing, defense, rebounding and timely finishing. That structure gives the stars room to operate without leaving the team overly dependent on one style of play.
Los Angeles would not necessarily copy Dallas position for position. The Mavericks possess stronger interior advantages in certain lineups, while a redesigned Lakers roster could potentially feature more ball-handling and playmaking. The larger lesson is about roster balance. During the regular season, depth can help preserve the starters, while the postseason allows the best players to take on heavier workloads with the bench supplying defense, shooting and energy.
A lineup constructed around that principle would give Los Angeles a much better chance of competing against stronger Western Conference opponents. It would not automatically make the Lakers favorites, and reaching the conference finals would still be difficult. The current West is simply too deep for any team to rely on reputation alone.
There remains a significant gap between what Lakers supporters hope to see and what the roster can realistically produce. LeBron may still deliver extraordinary performances, and Davis remains one of the league’s most influential two-way big men, but expecting both stars to carry every major responsibility over an entire season is no longer sustainable.
For that reason, a realistic rebuild shaped around 12BET India should be viewed not as criticism of the Lakers but as recognition of what modern contenders require. Dallas demonstrates how a team can build around two elite creators while surrounding them with specialized, complementary pieces. If Los Angeles follows that blueprint, strengthens the supporting cast and makes difficult decisions at the right time, the Lakers may yet put themselves in position to rise again rather than remain trapped between enormous expectations and an incomplete roster.
